Possible Connection

Hello everyone, i am gonna start a little rant about the connection between video game violence and the past few school shootings. I took the time to watch a few hearings from the MSRP just before they stickered everything. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about those little white boxes with ratings on them and content warnings. I believe the visual rating system is a good idea but this should not be used to help parents make video games their children's guardian. many people claimed that after shootings at schools that they were actually putting some blame on violent images, and influences from video games. Now I'm not saying i dont think video games like Doom, Fear, and Silent Hill arnt violent by all means they are its just that many stores out there don't quite watch the ages of kids who buy games and parents are some times in the same sense too lazy to check the lable to see what the rating is. I think the problem is not to complain to the creators like (Rockstar) but to have our parents who have younger children playing games need to put those games away and stop being oblivious to what there kids may or may not be playing at their friends houses after school.
P.S. thanx for the coments if you need to get in contact with me for anything please email me Holt.158@osu.edu

Okay, Spartan, a good topic, although you run through it a bit fast. Slow down and recognize the need for paragraph breaks. Also, in the future, you'll want to link to some of the important issues/concepts/texts you are discussing.

I'm with you on this one. Parents are to quick to point fingers than to look at themselves. I think to some extent parents need to be involved in what their kids are watching on tv and what video games they are playing.

I don't think that vidoe game vilonce has much to do with school shottings. I might make kids think that they are shotting other kids while playing the game but i don't think that it has provked anything. I think school shottings have started because of students have picked on other kids so much and made them feel so small that they get so pissed and just blow. and in fact i kind of agree with them because i don't believe in people being absolty rude for basically for no reason.

I agree with the fact that if the parents want to do something take the game from their kid not complain to the creator of a video game. As a parent its your responsibility to monitor your child not try to have a video game company make games suitable for just your kid.

I have to wonder for a minute to fully grasp the thought that a video game could cause a student to pick up a gun and kill their fellow classmates. Do we point the accusing finger at the maker of the game? No. The parents for buying the game? No. Or possibly the teachers? Yes. Lets face it, not every kid in school can be popular. It isn't too difficult to see who is being picked on in a class or an entire school for that matter. Kids can be extremely cruel and blunt as well as very emotional due to changes in their bodies. It's the teachers job to educate as well as police their schools. If four wolves were trying to take down a small weak deer in the wild, at some point, knowing he can't win he will turn and use what he can to escape by fighting for what little he has left to live for, regardless of the outcome.

drama queen you make a good point but since the first contrivertial game Doom came in to being parents and Haters have been placing some blam on the influence video games have, im not saying video games cause school shootings but parents and school officials of past school shootings made it public that they beleave video games to have lead to the students shootings.

I think this topic is much more debatable. I feel the concern about violence in video games are on personal opinions way over done. People should leave it be and instead of promoting the games even more.
